The Facts about Christian Faith
What is so magical and inspiring about the Christian faith?
What is it about Christianity that makes it the largest religion in the world.
Faith is described in Hebrews 11 : 1
"Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see."
Another description of faith as picked out from a dictionary
"a confident belief or trust in the truth or trustworthiness of a person, concept or thing."
In religious terms it refers to a belief in a transcendent reality, a religious teacher, a set of teachings or a Supreme Being.
The Christian faith, as in other Abrahamic religions, centres on a belief in God and that he administers to his kingdom. Christianity is different from other religions that claim to trace its descendency back to Abraham in that it revolves around the ministry of Jesus. He was prophesied, according to the Old Testament of the Bible, to be Christ - the Messiah. His deeds, suffering and subsequent Resurrection as told in the New Testament form the fundamental beliefs of any Christian.
" God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." John 3 : 16
It is believed that Jesus Christ was sent to provide salvation to humankind. In his teachings, sufferings, death and Resurrection, this was the ultimate sacrifice and whom so ever believes in him and follows his ways shall become closer to God and all sins are forgiven provided that repentence is in the heart.
The Old Testament, particularly the Book of Leviticus, tells of the sacrifices to be made to God in order to atone ones sins. However, The New Testament clearly demonstrates that Jesus, having made the ultimate sacrifice of his own life, has made atonement for all sins. Individual sacrifices and offerings no longer have to be made as long as their is a belief in Jesus Christ and a truly sorrowful heart.
So the saying goes, "if all else fails, read the instructions."
The Bible is seen by the Christian faith as their Book of Instructions. The different books within The Bible are written as a history book, poetry book, story book as well as a law book. The Bible is the Word of the Lord.
One last thing to mention, the Christian faith that God has three forms - The Holy Trinity. These are seen as God the Father - the creator; God the Son - Jesus; and God the Holy Spirit - that which lives within us, guiding us to be ever closer to God.
How fantastic is that?
